Special occasions

Planning a wedding? Congratulations!

We'd love to help you celebrate your special day.

Every year, many happy couples choose to tie the knot in Northaw church.

In order to marry in the parish of Northaw and Cuffley, at least one of you needs to live in the parish [click here for map] or to have a 'qualifying connection' with the parish.  You can find out what the qualifying connections are by clicking here.  If either of you has been married before and your former spouse is still living, there are extra requirements, but a church wedding may still be possible, so please do ask.

Christenings/Baptisms

Baptism is often referred to as Christening, because it is how a person becomes a Christian and a full member of the Church.   It is possible to be baptised at any age.

Baptism of babies/children

Many parents wish to celebrate the arrival of a child with baptism, which is a wonderful way to recognise the miracle of birth.  Your child can be baptised in either of our churches if you live in the parish of Northaw and Cuffley: please click here for map.

It is sometimes possible for a child living outside the parish to be baptised in Northaw and Cuffley, if the child’s parent has a particular connection with the parish  Arranging baptisms for non-parishioners/church members typically takes an extra 3 to 6 months, so if you are in a hurry, we usually suggest that you arrange for the baptism in your local parish church, which you can find by clicking here and entering your postcode.

Baptism and confirmation of adults

If you have not been baptised, it's never too late.  When an adult is baptised in the Church of England, they are also confirmed by the Bishop, either at the same service, or at a special confirmation service soon afterwards.

If you were baptised as a child and return to Christian faith as an adult, by being confirmed you can confirm for yourself the baptismal promises that your godparents made on your behalf.

Adults wishing to be baptised and/or confirmed do a short course of preparation with others.
